Many reputable colleges and universities have no library at all. Just then, a three storey library, set up at a remote rural area by an advocate family, has been helping local people including youths and students to gather knowledge and become enlightened remote people.
This library’s name is Tabarak Hossain-Shamsunnahar Library set up in the border areas school in Shahbajpur High School and College in Barlekha Upazila, 86 kilometers away from Moulvibazar District Town. During a visit this correspondent saw a good number of rare books are kept for display at the library.
Over 10,000 thousands books are being displayed at the building, said Advocate Tabarak Hosain, Owner of Tabarak Hossain-Shamsunnahar Library. Lauding the organisers for holding the library at remote area from upazila headquarters, it would encourage the younger people to read more.
Peter Mannar, a resident of Pallarthal punjee{village} said, he is in 8th class of Shahbazpur High School and college. The village of India can be seen from our house. India Border started next to our house. Our school has such a big three storey library. It is very beautiful inside. There is a system of sitting and reading books. He has never seen such a large library before.
Sajeda Akther, a student of eleven classes said she has visited a library in Dhaka with her family. That is why there was a great desire from long time to visit again. She was surprised to see such a library in our school in this remote area.
Dipa Das, a resident of the area in same Upazila said, he wanted to buy a Moulvibazar history related book from time but I didn’t get this book in any library in Barlekha Upazila Town after searching.
But I got this book in the library. Not only that also some rare books found in the library.
Advocate Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam Shahin, former president of Sylhet District Bar Association said, upon hearing of such an exceptional initiative, I said that I would also give some rare books for that library. That’s why I also brought some rare books of the mass uprising of the 79 to give.
Bhishmadeb Chowdhury, former Head of Bangla Department of Dhaka University said, such an initiative has been taken to develop the habit of reading books. It is a laudable step will help the new generation to know about the heroes. People are building grain stores, increase assets, but at the same time, we need to increase our knowledge.
