A new gold medal titled ‘Quazi Abdul Fattah-Khurshida Banu Fattah Gold Medal’ has been introduced at the Department of Botany of Dhaka University (DU). Former Professor of the Department of Botany of DU Dr Quazi Abdul Fattah handed over a cheque for Tk. 5 lac to DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin on Wednesday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to introduce the gold medal.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr Md. Imdadul Hoque, Chairman of the Department of Botany Prof Dr MA Bashar and Prof Dr Sheikh Shamimul Alam were present on the occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BS (Honors) final examination from the Department of Botany of DU, will be awarded ‘Quazi Abdul Fattah- Khurshida Banu Fattah Gold Medal.’
Vice-Chancellor Prof Siddique thanked the donor for introducing this gold medal at Dhaka University and hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation.
It may be mentioned that both professors Dr Quazi Abdul Fattah and Dr Khurshida Banu Fattah were the students of DU Botany Department. Prof Dr Quazi Abdul Fattah retired from the Department of Botany of DU in 2010. Prof Dr Khurshida Banu Fattah also retired from the Government Home Economics College, Dhaka in 2001 as its Principal. The two sons of this couple Dr Quazi Riaz Fattah and Dr Quazi Parvez Fattah are now well established in the society.
