New factory of Essential Drugs Company in July

The third plant of the country’s only state-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer is going to be commissioned in the last week of July.
“The 3rd plant of Essential Drugs Company Ltd (EDCL) has been completed …Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would formally inaugurate the plant in July at Gopalganj, the birth place of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim.
He was speaking at a press briefing at Secretariat organised by health ministry on the occasion of the opening the new factory at Ghonapara in Gopalganj district.
Government hospitals, health centers and community clinics are distributing medicines free of cost across the country as at least 72 per cent drugs are being supplied by EDCL, Nasim said adding, “The govt would be able to provide 100 per cent of medicine free of cost after launching of the factory”.
This drug company will be the largest medicine manufacturing company of the South Asia under the ministry. The construction work of EDCL, 3rd Plant project was taken up in March, 2015 at a cost of Taka 600 crores on 10 acres of land where at least 800 people would be employed at different levels, said Managing Director of EDLC Professor Dr Ehsanul Kabir.
This plant will consist of administration Building (Main Building), Penicillin Production Building, Utility and Engineering Building, Contraceptive Production Building, Inter Venus (IV) Production Building, Quality Control (QC) and Iron Tablet Production Building, Central Ware House Building, Gate Housing Building and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
