UNB, Dhaka :
Vowing to make Dhaka a safer city, newly appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Wednesday said he would be tough as much as needed to ensure public safety.
He came up with the pledge while addressing a press briefing at the DMP media centre after taking over charge in the morning.
Asaduzzaman said, “Whatever measure is required for ensuring public safety and security will be taken as per law. We’ll be tough as much as needed for ensuring the public security. Those who will try to disturb public safety and security won’t be spared.”
He sought cooperation from the city’s elite and journalists in protecting public life and property, and promised to discharge his duty with sincerity and professionalism.
The new DMP boss will play an effective role in raising public awareness about the maintenance of public security in the days to come.
Noting that an investment-friendly environment is essential for turning Bangladesh into a middle-income country, he said, “I’ll be sincere to ensure such a congenial atmosphere.”
Asked what he will do in case of recurrence of Awami League’s gathering defying the ban, the DMP commissioner said, “Being public servants, our functions and duty are prescribed under the rules. We’ ll discharge our responsibility with professionalism under the legal framework.”
