11th National Parliamentary election: New dimensions in election campaign

Only three days left for the 11th parliamentary elections. Last time of election campaign is going on in the four seats of Moulvibazar to attract voters.
Candidates have taken a unique way in the campaign. They are conducting election campaign with the popular Baul songs in Sylhet. And, these Baul songs have been added different dimensions in the election campaign.
Candidates of seven upazilas of the district are conducting election campaign in seven upazilas of the district by miking the Baul songs of popular Baul singer Abdul Karim and local artists with adding candidates’ pictures and symbols.
Local people are fascinated by this song campaign. Besides, the children are dancing and singing with the Baul songs.
Artist Jamal Mia said, ‘Although we are not a professional artist, we can sing for the candidates in the election. People become happy and we got some money from it. Every day, the income is quite good.’
Artist Kabir Uddin said, ‘We are campaigning by adding symbols and names of candidates with the popular songs of Abdul Karim, Hason Raja.’
Music artist Zunu Kar said, ‘Enjoying music in the truck is quite enjoyable. Where we go, the people are behind us. We become happy to see the happy face of children.’
The children of Kamalganj’s Ghoramara said, ‘We ran from home when we heard the election songs. It’s so fun.’
Shamsher Nagar’s child Arif Ahmad said, ‘They give leaflets to us from the voting song car. They are singing to cast vote for Boat.’
Sumon Mia of Moulvibazar’s Hilalpur said, ‘Making a song by imitating the songs of the big artists. As a result, the campaigning has turned into amusement.’
In the Moulvibazar, there are four constituencies with 20 candidates. There are 12,97,271 voters in the district. Of them — 6,52,127 are male, 6,45,144 female, and 3,02,016 are new voters.
