UNB, Rajshahi :
Students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) went on an indefinite strike on Saturday demanding cancellation of newly adopted examination system.
The students of 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 sessions observed a sit-in programme in front of Shaheed Minar on the campus in the morning boycotting their classes.
According to Ruet sources, as per the new system, a student will have to achieve minimum 33 credits out of 40 to pass and move to the next session.
As per the previous rule, students were allowed to attend classes and examinations of the next session in spite of failure to achieve minimum credits. Later, they could obtain the credit through appearing in the examinations. The Ruet authorities cancelled the rule in 2013-14 academic year.
Terming the students’ demand illogical, Professor Rafiqul Alam Beg, Vice Chancellor of the university, said that earlier the students gave a memorandum to the authorities. We will take decision after discussion with academic committee, heads of departments and deans.
