Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam on Saturday said that separate department would be established to control mosquito born diseases.
Already a draft is being prepared to fix activities of the newly set up department under the supervision of an Additional Secretary.
The minister made the remarks at a seminar in the auditorium of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies on Saturday titled ‘Vector Problems in Bangladesh: An Integrated Management Approach’ organized by Centre for Governance Studies.
To describe the importance of the separate department, the minister said, mosquito born diseases infected not only in the city but also in villages. Since the LGRD Ministry works on cities, districts, upazilas, unions and villages, we have initiated it.
He said, there is no alternative of creating citizens awareness to control mosquito born diseases. And for this, we need to include compulsory books on this issue, including road safety regulation and others public awareness topics in National Board of Education syllabus.
A key note paper was presented by Dr. Manjur A. Chowdhury.
The programme was conducted by CGS Executive Director Zillur Rahman, while State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan attended it as the special guest.
