Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Saturday said that new buses will ply in the city streets within April.
The Mayor also the convener for the coordination committee for bus routes rationalization said it at a press briefing after the committees meeting in the Nagorbhaban.
“Some new AC and non-AC buses will be run in the city streets within April. The citizens will get a positive result in the way to eliminate anarchies in the transport sectors in the city within April to July. We are working honestly to restore discipline in the transport sector. As part of it, we have sat for a meeting today (Saturday). We have taken some decision. Many more matters to be decided in this regard,” he said after the committee’s second meeting as it formed on September 2018.
The committee was formed aiming to run all city buses under six companies.
Sayeed Khokon said the new buses will run under both, government and private management.
The Mayor said the anarchies on the transport sectors have not arise overnight. So, it will not possible to eliminate overnight. It may take more time.
He said bringing all city buses under six companies will be realized by two years.
He did not say any stipulated date for this.
The Mayor said no more bus routes will be approved before the realization of bringing all buses under six companies.
Replying to a query DSCC Mayor said the automatic traffic signal will be implemented soon.
“There are 10 auto traffic signals are working in DSCC. We will hand over hundred percent auto traffic signal to the Traffic Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police soon,” he said.
