New budget a symbol of hope and aspiration, MPs say

Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches today hailed the proposed budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year calling it a first ever big budget in country’s history and a symbol of hope and aspiration of the mass people.
Taking part in the general discussion on the fiscal plan in the Jatiya Sangsad, they said it is not a highly ambitious budget as described by certain quarters. They said this budget is possible to implement like the previous six ones placed by the Awami League-led government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The new budget, bearing the sign of economic emancipation of the common people, is definitely a people’s welfare-oriented budget and the country is proceeding towards development in all aspects, they observed.
The MPs said the fiscal measures indicate that Bangladesh is proceeding towards a tremendous development with the target of becoming the middle-income country by 2021.
Trade and commerce have witnessed a remarkable development, the foreign exchange reserve increased significantly, per capita income has risen to a satisfactorily level and employment opportunities have been widened, they observed.
The lawmakers accused BNP-Jamaat quarters of unleashing terror in the name of hartal and blockade that was a blow to the country’s economy growth.
They lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with India saying it was possible due to charismatic leadership and farsighted diplomacy of Hasina.

Finance Minister A M A Muhith placed a Taka 2 lakh 95 thousand 100 crore national budget for the fiscal year 2015-16 (FY16) on June 4 in parliament with a 7.0 percent GDP growth aiming at transforming Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.
Participating in the budget discussion, AKM Mozammel Haque demanded of the government to provide Taka 10,000 allowance for every freedom fighter, the greatest sons of the soils.
The government has a plan to publish a final list of the real freedom fighters with a special identity card (ID) using eight barcodes, certificates and to construct 10,000 houses for the freedom fighters across the county.
“Besides, a list of anti-liberation forces including Rajakers, Al-Badr and Al-Shams will be published,” the minister told the House.
He said the spot (Suhrawardy Uddayn, the erstwhile Race Course Maidan) where the Pakistani occupation forces completed their surrender would be preserved rightly so that the new generation could know the actual history.
The minister demanded an additional allocation of Taka 130 crore for the Ministry of Liberation War. Zahid Malek termed the proposed budget as a symbol of people’s hope and aspiration of the people.
