Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said under no circumstances will two SSC examinations be held in one day. The Secondary School Certificate and equivalent exams have been pushed back several times due to the ongoing transport blockade called by the BNP-led alliance. The minister told guardians of students while inspecting the Motijheel Ideal School and College exam centre on Friday morning. He said, “Two exams one after another in morning and afternoon will not be held. It is a just a rumor, overlook it.” “I understand the students and will not force them to take two exams a day. We have done it earlier but those days are gone. “We will finish the exams tactfully and publish the results in due time.” SSC and equivalent exams which were scheduled to take place on Feb 8 are being held on Friday. SSC’s English First Paper, Dakhil’s Arabic First Paper, SSC Vocational Maths-2 (1923) and Maths-2 (8123) and Dakhil’s Vocational Maths-2 (1723) and Maths-2 (8523) exams are being held from 9am. The Education Ministry had to postpone the SSC and equivalent exams of Feb 2, 4, 8, 10 and 12. A total of exmas on 37 subjects were delayed for the indefinite blockade. Around 1.5 million students are taking this year’s SSC examinations. In 2013, examinations of 37 SSC subjects and 41 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) subjects were to be deferred due to similar protests by BNP-Jammat alliance. Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations too were deferred due to BNP shutdowns last year. –bdnews24.com
