Netherlands qualify for Super Ten

Netherlands qualified for Super Ten when they thrashed Ireland by six wickets in their last Group B match of the ICC World Cup Twenty20 Cricket at the Sylhet Stadium on Friday.
Though Netherlands, Ireland and Zimbabwe earned equal points from their respective three
matches but by virtue of better net run-rate Netherlands achieved the ticket of the Super Ten.
Sent into bat first, Ireland scored 189 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Netherlands sailed home making 193 for the loss of four wickets when they had 37 balls to spare.
Netherlands made a formidable start as SJ Myburgh and PW Borren, the two openers of the victorious team contributed 91 runs in the opening stand using just 36 deliveries.
Myburgh hammered a typhoon 63 from 23 balls featuring seven over boundaries and four boundaries.
Later, TL Cooper and W Barresi put on together 61 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Cooper was caught by O’ Brien off Murtagh when Netherlands score was 161 for the loss of four wickets. TL Cooper hit a quick-fire 45 off 15 balls including six sixes and one fours.
W Barresi remained unbeaten with 40 off 32 balls with three over boundaries and three boundaries.
Opener PW Borren hit a tornado 31 from just 15 balls including four fours and two sixes.
O’ Brien picked up two wickers in lieu of 29 runs, while GH Dockrell and TJ Murtagh took one wicket each conceding 43 and 47 runs respectively.
Earlier, Ireland lost their early three wickets for 88 runs.
Later, AD Poynter and KJ O’ Brien built a remarkable partnership. They added together 101 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Poynter was caught by LV van Beek off MA Jamil when Ireland’s total was 189 for the loss of four wickets.
AD Poynter cracked a windy 57. His 38-ball stormy innings was studded with four over boundaries and four boundaries.
William Porterfield of Ireland hit a captain’s knock of 47 off 32 balls with five fours and two sixes.
O’ Brien remained unbeaten with 42. He smashed four sixes and two fours in his 16-ball hurricane innings.
Besides, EC Joyce added 28 runs to the Ireland total.
MA Jamil of Netherlands bagged a pair of wickets instead of 26 runs while T van der Gugten got one wicket for 32 runs.
