The Netherlands beat United Arab Emirates by 6 wickets in the first Group-B match of the ICC World Twenty20 at Sylhet Stadium on Monday.
Replying to UAE’s 151 runs, the Netherlands reached their target making 152 runs for four in 18.5 overs with opener Stephan Myburgh quick-firing 55 runs off 36 balls featuring seven fours and two sixes.
Tom Cooper scored unbeaten 34 runs off 26 balls with four fours and a six and earlier claimed two wickets for 18 runs in 2 overs for his side and was adjudged man of the match.
In the opening stand, Stephan Myburgh contributed 69 runs paring with Michael Swart in 6.4 overs.
Michael Swart scored 26 runs off 16 balls with three fours and a six while one down Wesley Barresi made 24 runs off 21 balls with a four and six.
Kamran Shazad claimed two wickets for 19 runs in his four overs spell while Shadeep Silva took one wicket conceding 38 runs.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, United Arab Emirates scored 151 runs for all in 19.5 overs.
Shaiman Anwar quick-fired 32 runs off 19 balls with four fours and a six while skipper Khurram Khan made 31 runs off 25 balls including four boundaries.
Number four batsman Swapnil Patil scored 23 runs off 28 balls with two boundaries and Rohan Mustafa made 20 runs off 14 balls also featured two boundaries.
Ahsan Malik claimed three wickets for 16 runs in 3.5 overs while Timm van der Gugten captured two wickets for 24 runs and Michael Swart took one wicket for 19 runs.
