Nepalese student mysteriously commits suicide in city

After eight months of mysterious death of a Maldivian medical student in Rajshahi, another Nepalese female student committed suicide by hanging herself in her college hostel in the city’s Bhatara area on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Binisha Shah, 20, a 3rd year student of Pioneer Dental College (non-government) of Bangladesh.
Quoting the deceased’s classmates, Officer-in-Charge of Bhatara Police Station Kamruzzaman said, “Binisha might have committed suicide as she had been suffering mental pressure and dishonour due to college authorities autocratic behaviour.”
Prior to the term-2 examination, the college authorities demanded Tk 2 lakh withholding the students admit cards and other necessary documents, the police official said.
In addition, the questions for the term-2 examination was made harder willingly to get more students failed. Subsequent to results, teachers make them pass in exchange for money, amount to 50,000 to 70,000, the OC added.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.
Her classmates complained that the term-2 exam was made difficult and the teachers scolded when Binisha wanted to leave the examination Centre for half an hour earlier on Tuesday.
Binisha might commit suicide in fear of fail as well as excess pressure from the teachers and college authorities, they claimed.
Earlier on March 29, a Maldivian medical student, who was featured as a model on the cover of Vouge India magazine last year, was found dead in her room at a dormitory of a private medical college in Rajshahi.
Police recovered the body of Raudha Athif, 21, a second-year student of Islami Bank Medical College in Nawdapara area.
