UNB, Sylhet :Nepal reached the semifinal of the six-nation SAFF U-16 Championship as Group B champions beating Afghanistan by a solitary goal in the last group match at the Sylhet Stadium on Friday.In the semifinals on Sunday (Aug 16), all win Group A champions Bangladesh will play Group B runners-up Afghanistan while another all win Nepal will face Group A runners-up defending champions India at 6pm at 3pm respectively at the same venue.The final of the continental meet will be held on August 18 at the same venue.In the day’s match, after a barren first half, Kshitiz Raj scored the match winner for Nepal in the 47th minute.Earlier, hosts Bangladesh confirmed the semifinal berth from Group A with one match to spare eliminating all-losers Sri Lanka by 4-0 goals in their first match on Tuesday (August 11). Later, Bangladesh beat India by 2-1 goals at the same venue on Thursday last.India also assured the semifinal berth from the same group beating Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in the tournament opener last Sunday (August 9).Nepal and Afghanistan assured the semifinal berth from Group B eliminating all losers Maldives by 5-0 and 4-0 goals respectively on August 10 and 12 at the same venue.
