A day after the disappearance in Rangpur, the body of a four-and-a-half-year-old boy named Mobashbira Akhter Maisha was recovered from a pond next to his house, PBI police said.
The accused sexually harassed and kissed the child Maisha after calling her at home. Later, the accused hit Maisha when the child hit her with a bamboo twig. The accused got angry and pushed hard. Baby Maisha died on the spot after being hit in the chest by a bamboo beside her.
Zahurul Haque Rana alias Chhakku, 45, who was arrested in the incident, confessed to killing the baby Maisha during preliminary interrogation before the PBI police. Rangpur Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Superintendent of Police ABM Zakir Hossain said this in a press briefing on Thursday (December 31). Earlier on Wednesday (December 30) night, Zahurul Haque Rana alias Chhakku was arrested from a house in Keranipara area of the city.
PBI Superintendent of Police further said. The child’s family and accused Zahurul Haque Rana alias Chhakku are neighbours. Maisha used to call him Dadu.
Chhakkur’s wife and daughter lived in his father-in-law’s house. Chakku lived alone at home. On the day of the incident, last Monday (December 26) at around 12 noon, Chhakku gave two rupees to Maisha to buy Moya.
When the baby Maisha Moya (Moir Moya) was bought, Chakku took her inside the house and kissed her a few times. At that time, when Maisha hit Chakku with the bamboo twig found next to him, he got angry and pushed him hard.
Maisha was hit on the chest with a bamboo and died on the spot. He then stuffed his body in a sack and hid it in the house. Later, at around 11 pm, Chhakku left Maisha’s body in the ponds of neighbors Matin and Shaheen and went into hiding.
On Tuesday (December 29) morning, the locals informed the police when they saw Maisha’s body lying on the bank of the river.Maisha is the daughter of Monwar Hossain, a grill mechanic from Barbari Sarkarpara village in Ward 14 of Rangpur city.
Monwar Hossain became the plaintiff in the case and filed a murder case with the Kotwali police station on the same day. Rangpur PBI took charge of the investigation on its own initiative.
At one stage of the investigation, Zahurul Haque Rana alias Chhakku, who was involved in the incident, was arrested from Keranipara in the city. When he was later produced in court, he voluntarily gave a confessional statement.
Maisha has been missing since noon on Monday (December 26). Miking was done at night as he could not be found till evening. The next day, on Tuesday (December 29) morning, the police recovered the body from the pond.
