Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University Dr Serajul Islam Choudhury believes that the ongoing social system is unjust and sick. According to him, the people of having power in this society always suppress the three qualities- knowledge, intellect and kindheartedness of the intellectuals. And they do it using the media. He expressed these views in the Nehreen Khan Memorial Speech program held on Wednesday at the East West University (EWU), Aftabnagar in the capital. Dr Choudhury also said, the independence of our country has transformed power from foreigners to the local rulers, but the power structure remained same.
On the question of language, he said that at present English is more dominant than Bangla compared to the British era. In order to get rid of this present evil cycle of society, he suggested the citizens especially the intellectuals should embrace of knowledge, intellect and kindheartedness instead of self-interest.
This lecture was organized in the memory of former student of East West University, Nehreen Khan, late daughter of Dr Akbar Ali Khan, former adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh. On this occasion, Prof Dr Serajul Islam Choudhury was honored with a crest and a cheque amounting one lakh taka.
Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, Vice-Chancellor, EWU presided over the program. Dr Akbar Ali Khan, Dr Fakhrul Alam, Professor of Dhaka University, AZM Shafiqul Alam, Treasurer of EWU, Late Nehreen Khan’s classmates were also present in the program along with other dignitaries.
