Farmers' Field Day observed: Need of improved variety of crops in scientific method stressed

Farmers’ Field Day on wheat was observed at Gosaidanga village under Sarutia union of Sailkupa upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Jointly assisted by Cereal System Initiative for South Asia- Mechanization and Irrigation (CSISA-MI), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (SIMMYT), International Development Enterprises (IDE), a non-government organization Jagarani Chakra Foundation has been implementing the programme.
Presided over by Rowshan Ali Master, Agriculture Development Officer of SIMMYT Moksedul Arafat, Officer, Business Development of IDE Jahairul Islam, farmer Sujon Ahmed, Anwar Hossain and sub assistant agriculture officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension Mosleh Uddin Tuhin among others spoke in the occasions.
The speakers stressed the need of improved variety of crops in a scientific method, which is environment-friendly as well as profitable for the producers.
They said, farming of wheat in strip form a least time consuming, disease-free and maximum yield as a farmer can harvest 19- to 20 maunds on each bigha of land as against 16 to 17 maunds.
The speakers said, the strip system ensures 10 to 15 per cent additional production where the land is not handled repeatedly. It preserves the productivity of land for future yield from the same plot.
