The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been found associate of mortician Munna Vhakta sex with eight more dead bodies in the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
20-year-old Munna was arrested for alleged involvement having sex with teenage female dead bodies on November 19 and then the CID had confirmed with DNA tests that the youth had sex with at least five dead bodies. Munna had then confessed his crime before a Dhaka court and now in jail.
CID’s special police superintendent (SSP) for forensic lab Rumana Akter told The New Nation that they have received more samples from dead bodies by their family members after disclosed the incident.
Forensic lab has examined some vaginal swab samples and found that Munna had sex with at least eight more female bodies at the hospital morgue, she said.
The victims were teenagers who mostly died from suicide, the CID investigators said adding that they were mainly from Pallabi, Kafrul, Mirpur areas as bodies from the areas are taken to Suhrawardy Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
Meanwhile, the CID’s additional deputy inspector general (DIG) Sheikh Omar Faruque said that the CID is planning to submit charge sheet against Munna by late February or early March.
Sexual intercourse with corpses, or necrophilia, is a serious crime. They have collected DNA and other medical evidences and the accused has given confessional statements before the court, the officer said.
CID’s SSP Shamsun Nahar said that the High Court has specific instruction for DNA profiling with 48-hours after deaths. The investigating agency was also engaged in DNA profiling for years.
While DNA profiling, CID forensic team suddenly traced something suspicious. They collected some vaginal swab samples from the Suhrawardy Hospital forensic medicine department and found presence of male sperms, she added.
After the DNA tests, CID lab results showed that those were from a single person, she further added.
According to the CID sources, Munna Vhakta, an associate of mortician, has been doing this for two-three years. At night he slept in the morgue. He used to guard the body that came to the hospital at night.
At night, the corpse of a young woman would actually be met with perverted sex. The 11 to 20-year-old girls who committed suicide were the target of Munna’s perversion. Munna was working with his uncle’s assistant even though he was not the staff of the hospital, the CID said.
The CID sources also said that further investigation revealed signs of rape before the autopsy of the bodies of the suicides. Every rape took place in solitude at night. At one stage of the investigation, DNA samples of Munna’s body were found in the CID’s profile. Later, the CID arrested Munna from the morgue of the hospital.
Munna’s DNA tests matched with the sperms found inside the five bodies then. After the incident more people contacted with CID and the hospital forensic department. CID analyzed those samples and found his sperms inside at least eight more corps, the CID sources said.
Mortician Jatan Kumar Lal said Munna was an addicted, but he did not have any ideas that his nephew would stoop so low and commit such a crime.
Suhrawardy Hospital’s forensic department chief Professor Selim Reza told The New Nation that they had increased security and surveillance at the morgue, deploying Ansar members and installing close circuit television cameras.
