The government has undertaken various initiatives along with enacting necessary laws to bring sound pollution under control.
Deputy Minister for Environment and Forests Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, on behalf of Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain told this in the Jatiya Sangsad, while responding to call attention notice brought by treasury bench member Nazrul Islam Babu under the Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure.
He said the government has brought under the jurisdiction of mobile courts sound pollution and sound polluting machineries as well as using of hydraulic horns in motor vehicles as a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, the mobile courts have fined 500 motor vehicles Taka five lakh on charge of sound pollution, he informed the House.
Besides, Taka 1.89 crore was fined and Taka 1.77 crore realized on charges of sound pollution from some industrial units, the deputy minister said.
The House today disposed of two more call attention notices brought by opposition member Fakhrul Imam and treasury bench member Umme Razia Kajol.
