Under the social safety net program of the Social Welfare Ministry, 79.25 lakh poor and distressed people are receiving various types of allowances and education stipends in the fiscal year 2019-20.
Among 44 lakh elderly people and 17 lakh widows, destitute women, who are depriving supports of their husbands, each beneficiary is getting Taka 500 as allowance, an official press release said.
A total of 15.45 lakh are being given Taka 750 each per month as disabled allowance while one lakh disabled children are getting education stipend from Taka 750 to 1300 each per month.
Each of Primary, secondary, higher-secondary and graduation/post-graduation students are being given stipends of Taka 700, 800, 1,000 and 1,300 per month respectively.
Besides, one lakh children raised in private orphanages are also getting capitation grant of 2000 per month and 50 thousand elderly bedes (snake charmers) and old-age people of underprivileged group are receiving special allowance of 500.
Around 26,00 transgender people are receiving allowance of Taka 600 per month while 25,900 children of bede and underprivileged section and 1,247 transgender children’s are getting special stipends.
