Nearly 79 lakh students getting stipend: Minister

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said in order to ensure education for all, nearly 78,70,129 students are getting stipend to continue their studies as many students are forced to leave schools due to economic hardship.
“Introduction of stipend programme has contributed to ensure access of poor children to education…. Education sector is witnessing a considerable progress in terms of increasing students enrolment at both primary and secondary level as well as checking drop-out rate,” he told a workshop on “Stipend project for primary education at LGED Bhaban here.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Mesbah Ul-Alam, senior officials of different government and non-government organizations, among others, attended the workshop with Director General of Directorate of Primary Education Md Alamgir in the chair.
Executive Chairman of Power and Partnership Research Centre and former advisor of the caretaker government Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman presented the keynote paper at the workshop.
After a remarkable progress in the expansion of education, the minister said the government is aiming to improve quality of education further as it is being considered as the biggest challenge in the sector.
