Those walking on Broadway toward Trump Tower got an eye-full on Saturday when about 100 semi-nude protesters marched up the road in Manhattan.
The demonstration began at Union Square and made it’s way north in protest of Trump’s proposed policies.
Before the march began, a makeup artist painted blood and fake wounds on the bodies of the protesters.
Gothamist reports this was in order to represent the ‘harm’ minorities and marginalized groups could face in the Trump administration. Using the sidewalk, protesters marched north with a police escort, walking on sidewalks chanting: ‘My body, my choice.’
Occasionally the crowd chanted ‘Not my president’. But the number of protesters seemed to decrease at the demonstration arrived at its destination and the pre-determined protest area in front of the Trump Tower.
Only a few dozen people remained dedicated to the march. Tourists walked by, some of them snapping pictures on their cell phones. The protesters called out for them to join in the demonstration, but people continued to walk by.
From across the road, a few Trump supporters jeered at the protesters and the semi-naked marchers told them, ‘bigots go home.’ ‘It’s scary to see people against protesters and see the hatred for this.
But it’s even scarier to think about where they got these ideas and who’s telling them to think that way.
‘We need to use our voice and our rights to speak out against this. It gets scarier every day. The more people he floats for appointments and the closer we get to inauguration day, the scarier it gets.
‘I’m terrified for other people who have more at stake than I do and whose rights can be taken away at any moment. We’re taking a huge step backwards,’ Mesa Melton, 20, told Gothamist.
