A delegation of US-based National Democratic Institute (NDI) on Tuesday held a meeting with the Election Commission to know about the matters related to local and foreign observers of the 11th national election scheduled to be held on December 30.
At the 30-minute meeting, the seven-member NID team also wanted to know about the EC’s move to use electronic voting machines (EVMs), said EC officials.
Maeve Whelan-Wuest, NID programme officer for Asia, led the NDI delegation at the meeting with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and his colleagues at Nirbachan Bhaban.
Other NDI delegates include Sandra Pepera, Director for Gender, Women and Democracy, Neil Nevitte, Senior Elections Advisor, and Ivan Doherty, Senior Associate to Director of Political Party Programmes.
Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
The NDI is a non-partisan and non-profit organisation that works with partners in developing countries to increase the effectiveness of democratic institutions.
