Election Working Group (EWG) on Saturday termed Thursday’s Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls as “credible and peaceful”.
“Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election was better than other polls held under the Election Commission led by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad,” EWG member Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah told a press conference on NCC polls observation at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
Reading out a report on observation of the polls, Prof Kalimullah said no incident of violence and rigging took place in the polls and voter turnout was remarkable.
“Presiding officers in 96 percent voter centers started vote counting ensuring the presence of polling agents and observers after the end of vote casting at 4pm,” he said.
Kalimullah said voters in 93 percent centers exercised their rights of franchise in a disciplined manner standing in queues.
The evaluation report said no allegation of irregularity in vote casting was received from candidates and polling agents in the polls.
