The Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Sunday said that they will not question about the tax evasion of the MP candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He came up with this responding to a question from journalists at a press conference held on Sunday in the conference room of the NBR Bhaban at Segun Bagicha in the capital.
Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said, “We will not run behind everybody, they took tax clearance cirtificates those are required to fulfill schedule procedure.”
Asked if any action would be taken against the VAT and taxpayers in the election, the NBR chairman said, “Let’s go to the election this time, then a new initiative will be taken from the beginning of the new government.”
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said, “In our country, we all have corruption, if the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) go through neutral investigation.”
When the journalists questioned the internal corruption of NBR’s Income Tax Department, the NBR chairman said, “I have not received the ACC report yet. I disagree with the ACC about this, because, if you investigate completely neutral, then how many types of corruption can be found in the ACC also?
Everyone has corruption in our country, to change that we have to change our social system, he said.
He said, “If the ACC targets tax and customs only and try to set up their offices there, it will not be. Whatever the ACC will say, we have to abide the Income Tax Act and Customs Act.” He said.
The NBR chairman said, “We have to make arrangements to reward the honest officials of the government and scold the evil officials.”
