NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman said the revenue authorities have full confidence in businesspeople for successful implementation of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.
“NBR has declared businesspeople as partner and we are hopeful about collecting VAT properly through them,” said the NBR chief while speaking at a discussion meeting at Diplomat Engineers Institution on Saturday.
Media personalities, including the business editors of different print and electronic media were present at the meeting.
Nojibur Rahman said NBR has been developing a mobile app with the help of ICT Division so that the people across the country can know about implementation progress of the VAT law. The people will be able to know where VAT is paid and whether the VAT is deposited to the government exchequer or not, he added.
He said the people will be informed about the establishments which will take VAT registration so that they can pay VAT to these establishments.
“None will be able to misuse the new VAT law if we all try to know different sides of this law. If we give the information about this they will be aware about it,” he added.
He said VAT law implementation committee has been formed at divisional level for implementation of new VAT law from July 1 and divisional commissioner, officials and members of different chambers are the member of this committee.
This committee will make people aware about this new law, he said, adding that similar committee has been constituted at district level where upazila Nirbahi officer, members of local chamber and press club have been included for carrying out publicity about the VAT law.
