BSS, Dhaka :
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman has assured the road transport owners association of providing incentives if they work together to establish discipline in the sector for the welfare of the people.
“Transport sector is an important one and if you work together to establish discipline in the sector for the welfare of the people the sector will get all invectives from NBR,” he said during a pre-budget discussion with the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association (BRTOA) here on Wednesday.
During the discussion, BRTOA secretary general Khandaker Enayet Ullah put forward some proposals for the development of the sector.
He said there are over 300,000 transports in the country and of them, 100,000 transports carry passengers. Tyres of transports are very important because these are imported to meet the country’s demand, he said, adding that they change the tyres of their motor vehicles after every six months.
He proposed to reduce import duty on tyres to US$2.5 from existing US$3.5. He also demanded slashing tax on instruments used by the transport sector.
