Al Amin :
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will continue its support for local industries in the upcoming budget to encourage investment in private sector.
“NBR will continue its support for local industries as products made by them are gaining popularity among domestic consumers and contributing to the country’s export earnings,” a NBR official told The New Nation yesterday on condition of anonymity.
He added, “Such a support to encourage entrepreneurs to increase their investments in the country.”
The NBR official further said that locally made the electronics and technology products like mobile phones and laptops are already being exported to more than 40 countries around world.
Entrepreneurs said these products have already gained popularity at home and abroad.
Investment and employment will increase in the sector, if the sector gets sufficient policy support from the NBR, they said.
Zahidul Alam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Refrigerator Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BRMEA), told The New Nation, “The industry has already lured local and foreign investment. It is also reducing dependency on import of electronics and technology goods.
“If the existing benefit in this sector continues, it will help boost investment and employment,” he added.
Not long ago, Bangladesh was totally dependent on imported electrical and technology goods. But people now feel proud of buying goods produced in our country. Even the assemblers and producers are considering export of these products.
