National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Monday sought cooperation of income-tax lawyers and other professionals concerned to ensure the submission of income tax returns of the e-TIN holders.
“A good number of e-TIN holders do not submit returns, but professionals concerned could encourage them to submit returns or bring them under the tax net,” he said while talking at a pre-budget meeting at NBR auditorium.
Lawyers, C&F agents, freight forwarding agencies, ICMB, ICAB, institute of chartered secretariat and concerned professionals participated at the meeting.
At present, the country has a total of 38 lakh e-TIN holders of which only 20 lakh are used to submit income tax returns.
“We are trying to expand tax net but manpower shortage has held back us to do more . . . you (professionals) could help us in many ways,” Mosharraf told them.
The NBR chairman said more revenue is needed to be collected for the development of the country and the professionals could help the NBR collect more revenue.
