UNB, Dhaka :
The National Board of Revenue has sought greater support from the attorney general office to resolve income tax, VAT and duty-related cases pending with the country’s highest court.
NBR Chairman M Nojibur Rahman and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam at a recent
meeting discussed the early disposal of the cases, acceleration of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and improvement of internal procedures to reduce court cases, a senior NBR official told UNB.
The attorney general told the meeting that the cases related to income tax, VAT and duty are filed by some specific quarters who want to avail of the maximum facility with these cases.
“It’s our duty to provide appropriate and necessary assistance to the steps to be taken by the NBR,” Mahbubey Alam said.
Sources close to the meeting said the NBR and Attorney General office also discussed the issue of increasing High Court benches for dealing with duty, VAT and income tax-related cases.
