National Board of Revenue (NBR) wants to spread a message among the countrymen that there is nothing to be afraid to come under tax net because the taxpayers are honored as respected citizen of the country, said NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman.
“We want to inform the taxpayers that they are the respected citizens of the society . . . the NBR will respect you and your organizations . . . there is nothing to be scared,” he told a programme on Tuesday.
Tax Zone-5 organised the programme to honor the tax card holders for fiscal year 2016-17 (FY17) at its Segunbagicha office.
Congratulating the tax card holders, Nojibur Rahman said the NBR is honoring the tax card holders as part of its move to build a revenue friendly culture in the country. Taxpayers are contributing to the national development by paying tax, he added.
Declaring Economic Reporters Forum (ERF), an organization of the economic reporters, as the best partner of the NBR for the year 2017, he said the NBR has good relations with business establishments and the mass media has been playing an important role in this regard.
Dr Habibur Rahman received the honor in favour of long-time taxpayer individual Haji Saidullah Miah while Mahfuz Anam of Media World Limited, Tofail Hossain of East West Media Group Limited, Mahua Mahbub Khan of Bey Development Limited, SA Chowdhury of Space Zero Limited, Towfiqul Islam Chowdhury of ASHA and Sirajul Islam of Bureau Bangladesh received the honor on behalf of their respective organizations for fiscal year FY17 under Tax Zone-5.
Commissioner of Tax Zone-5 Shahin Akter gave the welcome speech while NBR members Abdur Razzak and Habibur Rahman and director general of Central Intelligence Cell Bebal Hossain were present at the programme.
