The National Board of Revenue (NBR) collected a total of Tk 109,573 crore as revenue, including income tax, VAT (local) and import-export duty, during July-January period of the current fiscal (FY2017-18).
The amount is 14.39 percent or Tk 13, 784 crore higher than previous fiscal’s (FY2016-17) Tk 95, 789 crore.
Of the Tk 109,573 crore, NBR collected Tk 35, 278 crore as import-export duty, Tk 41, 540 crore as VAT (local) and Tk 32,755 crore as income tax and tourism charge.
According to the NBR, it has a target to realize Tk 125, 313 crore as revenue during the July-January period.
While Taking, NBR chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan attributed the shortfall in revenue collection to the non-implementation of new VAT law and hoped that the NBR would be able to achieve the revenue collection target at the end of the current fiscal year as it has already intensified revenue collection related services.
