Staff Reporter :The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue in a surprising move sought details on all bank accounts held by Md Ghulam Hussain, the incumbent chairman of the tax administration.The CIC cell issued a letter in this regard on Thursday signed by Md Nurul Amin, a joint director of the cell.In the letter sent to chief executives of all commercial banks, the cell has asked them to furnish with detail information on Hussain’s current, savings and foreign currency accounts, credit cards, savings certificates and any other investment instruments and schemes within seven days. Hussain’s wife, Zakia Mansoor Hussain, who teaches economics at a college.While talking to The New Nation, Md Ghulam Hussain, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said the move reflected transparency of the tax administration. “The CIC is free to seek his account details from the banks. There should be no problem if his institution sought his financial details,” he added. Hussain joined the NBR in October 2012 as the Chairman of the NBR. Prior to joining the post, he performed as the Commerce Secretary. The 1982 BCS batch cadre started his career at the Customs and went on to work at the Bangladesh embassy in the US. He worked at the PMO from 1996-98.
