The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday asked all commercial banks to freeze the bank accounts of Regent Hospital, its chairman Md Shahed, JKG Health Care, its chairman Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, chief executive officer Arif Chowdhury and some other business entities owned by the people.
It also directed banks to freeze accounts of Regent Director Ibrahim Khalil.
The Central Intelligence Cell of the NBR issued the directive to banks in a bid to verify their tax compliance records, said a senior official of tax administration asking not to be named.
With the account freeze, no transactions could be made until the NBR unfreeze the accounts. NBR also asked the banks and financial institutions to provide their accounts details and transaction information for the last six years.
