Celebrated Nazrul Song exponent Sudhin Das was cremated at Postogola crematorium on Thursday afternoon two days after he breathed his last at a hospital in the city at age 87.
The cremation was performed in line with religious rituals after music connoisseurs, disciples, cultural figures and a huge number of admires paid their rich tributes to Das at Nazrul Institute and Central Shaheed Minar.
The body was kept at Nazrul Institute at 9.30 am for over an hour and then brought to the Shaheed Minar at 11 am so the people could have their last glimpses of the leading singer and authority of Nazrul song.
On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina her Principal Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique offered wreaths on the coffin as the body was brought there.
Wreaths were also offered to him at the scene on behalf of Awami League and by National Awami Party (NAP), Nazrul Academy, Shilpakala Academy, Chhayanaut, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Central Khelaghar Ashor, Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, Rabindra Sangeet Sammilion Parishad, Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad, Udichi, Bangladesh Mahila Samity and several other cultural groups.
Earlier students and disciples of Das thronged at the Nazrul Institute where the Institute’s Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Razzaque Bhuiya and other officials and employees paid their homage to him as the body was kept there for some time.
