Nazrul Academy marks National Poet’s birth anniversary

Nazrul Academy organised a four-day festival at the Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to mark the 117th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as well as the 45th founding anniversary of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, both were observed on that day.
Noted singer Syed Abdul Hadi inaugurated the festival, where he was bestowed with this year’s Nazrul Academy award for his contributions in the music scene. Presided over by noted cultural personality Mustafa Jaman Abbasi, the programme included a discussion session attended by the poet’s granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi, veteran Nazrul singer Khalid Hossain, and poet and Nazrul researcher Abdul Mukit Chowdhury.
The cultural segment of the first day event featured a play based on the Nazrul’s poem Khuki O Kathbirali, solo Nazrul Sangeet performance by the artistes of Nazrul Academy and recitation by Shamima Chowdhury. There were also discussion and cultural performances on each of the second and third day.
The concluding programme, which took place at the Nazrul Academy’s own compound at Moghbazar, included presentations of timeless Nazrul songs by the Academy’s own singers.
