An allround performance by Nazmul Hossain enabled Bangladesh u-19 team to take 2-0 lead in the seven-match Youth ODI series crushing touring South Africa U-19 team by 140 runs in the second Youth ODI held on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Chasing a winning target of 260 runs set by Bangladesh, South Africa found the chase very stiff losing wickets in regular intervals and finally dismissed at a paltry total of 119 in 43.2 overs.
Opener Kyle Verreynne (47) was the only notable batsman for South Africa as the visitors failed to build any effective partnership in the face of tight bowling attacks by the host bowlers.
Abdu Galiem (26) and Bongumusa Sibonelo (19) were the other notable batsman for the tourist side.
Nehaduzzaman was the pick of Bangladesh bowlers taking three wickets for 21 runs. He was well supported by Nazmul Hossain, Saleh Ahmed and Mossabbek Hossain, who captured two wickets conceding 3, 21 and 23 runs respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh rode on middle order batsman Zakir Hossain and skipper Nazmul Hossain’s brilliant half centuries, scored a competitive total of 259 for 4 from their allotted 50 overs, after the host opted to bat first.
Zakir played contributed an unbeaten 81 runs off 83-ball hitting seven boundaries and one over boundary while Nazmul played a responsible 73 run off 107-ball with the help of seven boundaries and one over boundary.
Sean Ander was the most successful bowler for South Africa picking up two wickets giving away 23 runs.
Nazmul Hossain of Bangladesh was named the player of the match for his all round performance in the match.
The third match between the two sides will be played on Monday at the Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.
Earlier, Bangladesh beat their South African counterpart by five wickets in the first match held at the same venue.
