Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against former BNP Minister Barrister Nazmul Huda in a case filed on account of filing a fake case against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
Nazmul Huda, now on bail in the case, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka read out the charges to him. Earlier on Wednesday, the court dismissed a petition submitted for discharging him from the charges of the case. Then the court fixed May 17 to start trial of the case.
On November 1 last year, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Benjir Ahmed, who is the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet of the case against the former minister.
Nazmul Huda lodged the case against SK Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station in the city on September 27, 2018, for demanding bribe from him and changing the verdict of a graft case that had already been disposed of.
The ACC after probing the case for one and a half years found the allegations baseless and false.
On December 4, 2019, discharging SK Sinha from the charges of the case, the anti-graft watchdog ACC submitted the final report. The ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed the case with the ACC’s integrated district office in Dhaka on February 19 of 2020.
On November 9 last year, SK Sinha, now in the USA, was jailed for 11 years in a money laundering case.
