Actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, who is accused of spreading rumours on the social media, has taken to Facebook once again – this time to express her gratitude for her release before the Eid-ul-Azha.
She thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a statement posted on her husband Ehsan Rahman Zia’s Facebook page on Thursday for “letting her celebrate the Eid with her daughter”.
The actress, known for her roles in films like ‘Dhaka Attack’ and ‘Bhuban Majhi’, also expressed gratitude to the law enforcers, jail authorities, and doctors and workers at the hospital she was in for ‘treating her with sympathy’.
“I thank honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving me the scope to celebrate the Eid with my daughter Prokriti,” she said.
“Besides being the tested, real and worthy guardian of the 160 million people of Bangladesh, she is a kind-hearted mother. That’s what I’ve felt deep inside once again,” Nawshaba said.
She went live on Facebook on the afternoon of Aug 4 and claimed two protesters had been killed and another had his eyes gouged out during clashes at Jigatala, a neighbourhood in Dhaka. She, however, was at a shooting site at Uttara at that time.
The law enforcers detained her later that day and police started a case against her under the ICT Act.
Her lawyer claims she had no ill motive behind spreading the rumours, but had received wrong information.
The government alleges there were attempts to topple it by using the non-political student protests. Nawshaba fell ill after six days in police custody on Aug 13.
After being denied bail several times, she finally secured her freedom a day before the Eid on Tuesday.
The actress said, in the statement that her freedom on bail was a “bright example of the independent judiciary'”.
She concluded by urging Hasina to consider her “emotion-driven and unintentional mistake with a mother’s kind and merciful heart”.
