Bangladesh Navy has seized 21,73,181 meters of illegal fishing nets worth about Taka 5.5 crore by conducting massive drives on rivers of southern parts of the country in last 18 days.
The drives were started from February 28, 2014 to check catching of Jatka (Hilsha fry). Bangladesh navy will continue the drives titled “Operation Jatka” till May 31. After seizure of the illegal nets including current nets, members of Bangladesh Navy destroyed these in presence of local administration, law enforcing agencies and fisheries officers.
