Bangladesh Navy on Tuesday arrested 92 Myanmar fishermen and seized 12 deep-sea fishing trawlers when they were catching fish illegally near the St. Marin’s Island in the Bay under Cox’s Bazar district, a BN release said.
The Myanmar fishermen were arrested on the charge of illegal entrance into Bangladesh territory, the press release said. The navy also seized huge numbers of fishes and fishing nets from the trawlers. The approximate price of seized trawlers, fishes and nets is nearly Taka 10.80 crore, the release said.
Bangladesh Navy Ship Dhaleshwari challenged the trawlers when it was operating a regular patrol within the Bangladesh maritime boundary.
The Navy handed over Myanmar fishermen and seized trawlers to Teknaf Police Station under Cox’s Bazar district yesterday for taking legal action, the release said.
