Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Farid Habib and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar met President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Monday.
During the meeting, the President thanked the Navy and Air chiefs for their promotion and rank upgradation.
The rank of the Navy chief has been upgraded to Admiral from Vice Admiral while that of BAF to Air Chief Marshal from Air Marshal. Navy Chief M Farid Habib and BAF Chief Abu Esrar were adorned with new rank badges at the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Due to the rank upgradation, the President said, there will be consistency with the forces of other countries and it will help discharge duties at ease.
He observed that the duties and responsibilities of the forces have increased following the upgradation.
Admiral M Farid Habib and Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar expressed gratitude to the President for the rank upgradation and sought his cooperation in discharging their duties.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Major General Sheikh Mamun Khaled made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the VC apprised the President about the third convocation of the university to be held on January 21 on the campus and academic activities of the university, said President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin while briefing reporters.
President Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, expressed satisfaction as the university has introduced various courses within a short time of its establishment and timely completion of the courses ensuring the standard of education.
