The National Vitamin A-Plus Campaign (Second round) concluded here on Saturday successfully. The campaign conducted under the auspices of the health and family planning ministry and national nutrition institute. Civil surgeon Netrakona Tajul Islam Khan informed that a total of 3,20,000 children aged between six and 59 months were administered vitamin A -Plus capsules in 2264 immunization centers in ten upazilas under Netrakona district during the campaign.
He said that number of 944 field -level officials of district health and family planning departments and 3584 volunteers including students, boys scouts, girl guides, nurses Ansars and VDPs and NGO workers were engaged for feeding the children vitamin A-plus capsules. Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health AKM Fazlul Haque formally inaugurated the campaign program at Kunia Center in Rouha Union under Netrakona Sader Upazila by administering vitamin a -plus capsules to some children there.
Replying to a question, the civil surgeon Mr. Khan said that vitamin “A” supplement is essential for the normal functioning of visual system, maintenance of cell functioning for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction.
Besides, various problems like eye sight and night blindness could be prevented and cured through successful implementation of the vitamin A -plus campaign, the Civil surgeon added.
