The BNP senior leaders on Tuesday said, the militancy problem cannot be solved by law enforcers alone unless there is a united resistance from the people. They also claimed, the country’s extremism has a link to international militancy.
“The government as yet could not eliminate extremism. They should forge a national unity to fight against militancy. The BNP is ready to cooperate with the government always,” said BNP leaders.
The leaders said it while speaking at a condolence meeting in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in memory of foreigners and Bangladeshis killed in a terror attack on a Gulshan café on 1st July. As part of the party’s countrywide programme, BNP arranged the meeting.
“BNP has long been urging the government not to take the militancy issue lightly. It is not an internal problem. It has relation with international militancy. But the rulers ignored our call. Moreover, they tried to implicate BNP and other opposition parties with it,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He accused the government of blaming the BNP and other opposition parties for political gain. It also hid the truth and the real offenders. He claimed that the last BNP government had success in curbing militancy with united efforts of people and Islamic scholars.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said that
the extremism had now turned into a serious problem for the country.
The BNP leader said, the blame game is encouraging militants to be more organised.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman and Selima Rahman, among others, spoke at the programme.
BNP Student Affairs Secretary Shaheeduddin Chowdhury Anee read out a paper and condoled the tragic death of those killed in Gulshan café attack.
