Nat’l Service Prog for youths expanded

The Cabinet on Monday decided to expand “National Service Programme” in 64 more upazilas across the country with a view to develop youths’ skill through training.
The decision was taken in a regular Cabinet meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat chaired by
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam told reporters after the weekly meeting that the government first in 2010 launched the programme in 19 upazilas which later expanded in 37 upazilas across the country.
He said, the National Service Programme will be expanded under 5th, 6th and 7th phases to poverty-prone 64 more upazilas, including two of Khagrachhari and one each in Bandarban and Rangamati districts.
“Of them, 20 upazilas each will be selected under the 5th, 6th and 7th phases of the programme, while four more upazilas from the three hilly districts in the three phases,” he added.
Under the programme, the Cabinet Secretary said, educated unemployed youths will impart training for three months from May, 2017 and they will get Tk 100 a day as training allowance.
Shafiul Alam said the youths will get jobs in various government offices for two years under the payroll system on completion of their training and get Tk 200 per day as wage during the period.
The government will spend about Tk 544.90 crore in this regard, he said. The programme is being run by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
