National Professor Salahuddin Ahmed died of old age complications at his residence on Sunday morning. He was 92.
Professor Salahuddin was born in 1922 in Faridpur. He completed his
BA honours degree in history from Presidency College in Calcutta and his first MA in history from Calcutta University, and then a second MA in history from the School of Oriental and African Studies of University of Pennsylvania.
He did his PhD in history at the University of London in 1961.
He started his teaching profession in 1948 as a lecturer at Government Jagannath College. He was a lecturer and later professor of history at Rajshahi University. He was also professor of history at Dhaka University, the job from which he retired in 1984.
