Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said, election schedule for the next Parliamentary Polls will be announced in the first week of November.
The EC Secretary said it in a press briefing after emerging from a meeting with a European Union (EU) team at the EC office in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Thursday.
In the meeting Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda disclosed that the polls schedule would be announced in the first week of November, Helal Uddin said.
On September 10, the EC Secretary said that the polls schedule would be announced any day after October 30.
EU for inclusive, participatory elections
The EU team stressed on the need of holding a free, fair, inclusive and participatory election.
“We expect a participatory and competitive election. It is important to have an acceptable election,” EU delegation head Ambassador Rensje Teerink told reporters after the meeting. In response, the Commission assured of taking every possible lawful measure in this regard.
The EU team also wanted to know during the meeting about EVM, manpower, election observers, law enforcement, voting arrangement for the expatriates, voter list and others, the Secretary said in reply to a question from journalists.
“The CEC told them that EVMs would be used in a small scale if the law is passed.”
Four election commissioners, Chief Election Commissioner and the secretary were present at the meeting with the EU representative team comprising ambassadors of seven countries, says AKM Mazharul Islam, personal secretary of the CEC.
