The nation observed the 46th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, popularly known as rebel poet, in a befitting manner on Saturday.
Eminent personalities, politicians, academicians, cultural activists, family members of the poet, poetry lovers and people from all walks of life paid rich tribute’s to the National Poet placing wreaths at his grave making the 46th death anniversary.
On August 27 (12 Bhadra of Bangla calendar year) in 1976, the poet breathed his last at the PG Hospital, now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). The poet was buried with state honour on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Ruling Awami League (AL) led by its General Secretary and
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader paid tributes to National Poet by placing wreaths at his grave in the morning.
After paying homage, they also offered Fateha and doa. AL Presidium Member Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain were aslo president at the occasion.
“Nazrul was a non-secular humanitarian spirit. But, a group now is sponsoring communal forces in the name of non-communalism. We must identify and defeat the communal forces,” after paying tribute Obaidul Quader said.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) led by its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi paid tribute to the poet also.
After paying homage, Rizvi said, “Nazrul’s songs, poems and other works were the main inspiration for Liberation War and stood against oppression and injustice with his pen.”
Nazul writes in his famous poetry the ‘Bidrohi’ “Say hero! Say erect is my head”. Truly he never surrendered to injustice. It is a fact that the young generations in particularly in all ages get inspiration on his poem.
“Nazrul is still relevant and will continue. Nazrul’s poems and songs were a source of great inspiration in various movements and struggles of the Bangalee nation,” State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said.
Teachers, students, officers and employees of the DU, led by DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, paid glowing tributes to the poet.
Besides, a discussion was also held presided over DU Vice-Chancellor Akhtaruzzaman at the premises of Nazrul’s grave. Pro-VC (Academic) Dr ASM Masud Kamal, Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmad, Dhaka Association (DUTA) General Secretary Dr Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan addressed on the discussion.
