The 43rd National Mourning Day, tragic assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday with a day-long program on the campus here.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a floral wreath at his portrait at the premises of Bangabandhu Hall of the university in the early hours of the day.
Marking the day, the JU authorities organised a painting competition for the children at old arts building. The national flag was kept at half-mast atop all buildings and black flags were hoisted in front of the Administrative Building and all residential halls.
A mourning rally led by JU VC, was brought out in the morning from JU Shaheed Minar which ended near the Bangabandhu hall premises.
On the occasion, JU authority organised Milad Mahfil seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and martyrs of August 15.
JU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Md. Amir Hussain, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Nurul Alam, Treasurer sheikh Monzurul Huq, Acting Registrar Rahima Kaneez, Dean of all faculty, Hall Provosts, Chairmen of various departments and students of the university, among others.

Comilla University
Comilla University observed National Mourning Day with due reverence and solemnity on Wednesday, marking the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahma on Wednesday.
To mark the day, the university teachers placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the campus. Besides, they also organised rally, milad mahfil and discussion to mark the day.
Different programmes including, discussions, documentary screening, and milad mahfils, were held to commemorate the great leader and his family members who were killed on August 15 in 1975.
On the occasion, CoU Register (Acting) Dr Md Abu Taher, members of CoU Bangabandhu Parishad, CoUTA, provosts of the halls, faculty members and CoU central Chhatra League places wreaths flowers at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University (DIU) paid glowing tributes to the country’s founding president and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his 43rd martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day with due respect recalling the August 15, 1975 carnage, when Bangabandhu was killed along with most of his family members. The national flag was hoisted at half-mast as the sun rises on August 14, 2018 at DIU main campus as well as permanent campus. To mark the occasion a discussion meeting followed by a prayer offered for eternal peace of Bangabandhu and his family members, who embraced martyr-dom on August 15, 1975 was offered today on August 14, 2015 seeking eternal peace of the departed souls at the 71 Milonayoton Auditorium of Daffodil International University.
Ambassador Waliur Rahman, Former Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Bangladesh Heritage Foundation was present as chief guest in the discussion session. Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU presided over the function. The function was also addressed by Prof Dr SM Mahabub-Ul -Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer of DIU also spoke on the occasion. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director of Student Affairs conducted the program and Maolana Habibut Rahman offered munajat in the program.
Waliur Rahman said that it is the proper way to show respect upon Bangabandhu by upholding Bangabandhu’s ideology by heart and do work accordingly and also spread the spirit of Bangabandhu’s ideology among the new generation. The ideology of Bangabandhu is not fully executed, we will have to take initiative for executing Bangabandhu’s ideology if we want to show due respect to him, he added.
Waliur Rahman said to the new generation that we got freedom from Pakistan which is now a world famous terrorist country. The total reserve of Pakistan is now only 16 billion dollar while the reserve of Bangladesh is now 23 billion dollar. The export revenue of Pakistan is 20 billion; on the other hand, the export revenue of Bangladesh is 45 billion dollar. These statistics indicates that we are living better from Pakistan. Already we entered into the list of developing country. If Bangabandhu alive, we would reach developed country too earlier.
Waliur Rahman said present government has executed punishment of 6 Bangabandhu’s killer and rest 4 is under process.
He urged the young generation to be resuscitated with the spirit of Liberation War and engage themselves to the task of materializing Bangabondhu’s dream of building a Golden Bengal turning into strength the grief of the great loss of the Father of the Nation.
The function was attended by all the Head of the Departments and Deans of different Faculties. A Large number of Faculty members, Officers, employees and students were present on the occasion.
Jagannath University
On the occasion of National Mourning Day on Wednesday Jagannath University (JnU) Cultural Center hosted a discussion meeting with paying rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Central Auditorium of Jagannath University. Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of JnU was the chief guest in the meeting.
As chief guest he visited Children’s drawing competition in the ground floor of the academic building of the university and distributed prize among the students. At the commencement of the discussion, A one minute silence was observed on the August 15 in memory of the dead.
The program was chaired by Mokhlesur Rahman Mukul President of JnU Cultural Centre while Prof Dr Md. Atiar Rahman, Chief Adviser of JnU Cultural Center, Registrar Engineer Md. Oheiduzzaman, Md Tariqul Islam President of Bangladesh Chhatra League Jagannath University unit and General Secretary Sheikh Zainul Abedin Rasel spoke on the occasion. The speaker discussed the life and work of Banghobandhu and his contribution towards building the nation.
Beside, program performed by Md Nazmul Huda General Secretary of Jagannath University Cultural Center while Prof Md Zakaria Miah of Microbiology Department and Suraiya Akhter Chisti (Rima) Founding President of JnU Cultural Center delivered the remarks.
However, around two hundred students from 20 schools of old Dhaka took part in the children’s painting competition on the occasion of National Mourning Day.After the meeting, The prize distributed among the winners of the competition. Deans of different Faculties, Teachers and students of different departments were also present at the meeting. At the end of the program, the Vice-Chancellor visited the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was established at the adjacent places of Jagannath University’s main gate.

Dhaka Commerce College
Dhaka Commerce College observed National Mourning Day with due reverence and solemnity marking the 43rd anniversary of assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The college arranged a discussion program having Abed Khan, prominent writer, journalist and the editor of ‘Doinik Jagoron’ as the chief guest. The program was presided over by Prof Dr Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, the Chairman of Dhaka Commerce College Governing Body. Prof Md. Abu Sayeed, Principal of the college, delivered the welcome speech. Prof Md. Shafiqul Islam, the Vice Principal, along with Prof Md. Mozahar Zamil, Academic Adviser and Md. Ali Azam, Associate Professor and the Convener of Cultural Committee also spoke on the occasion.
The college also screened a film on Bangabandhu titled “From Plassey to Dhanmondi” in its auditorium. Exhibitions of still pictures and paintings along with competition of drawing were also held under the supervision of Arts and Photography Club. Social Welfare Club of the college arranged blood donation and blood group identification program inaugurated by Prof Dr MA Rashid, Chief Executive Officer and senior consultant of Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.
The chief guest mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with many other members of his family and some relatives, was brutally assassinated with the conspiracy of several traitors on 15 August 1975. Those mean conspirators actually plotted to annihilate Bangladesh through the assassination of the greatest leader. He also referred to the War of Liberation when some native accomplices of the Pak oppressors killed the intellectuals with a view to making Bangladesh bereft of merit and intellect. He encouraged students, “You all should get inspired with the feeling of our War of Liberation to make yourselves prepared in order to make a developed Bangladesh.”
Prof Dr Shafiq Ahmed Siddique said, “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inspired the whole nation to launch the War of Liberation with his great speech on 7 March, 1971. His speech that inspired people of all walks of life to participate in the war spontaneously and the birth of the free nation got canonized to the honor of being a world heritage.”
Chorushilpi Sangsad installs Bangabandhu’s portrait near TSC
Bangladesh Chorushilpi Sangsad on Tuesday installed a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman covering 43 feet height to pay tribute to Bangabandu and make his great personality visible to the generation.
Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed inaugurated the largest ever portrait of Bangabandhu, which is equivalent to a four-storey building, at the premise of Milon Chattar of TSC of DU marking 43rd death anniversary of Bangabandhu.
With Bangladesh Chorushilpi Sangsad president Jamal Ahmed in the chair, among others, DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, sculpture Rabiul Hossain, Hasem Khan and Kamal Pasha Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
Sangsad sources said, More than 150 painters took part in this work. The work of portrait started from August 1 at TSC auditorium and Swimming Pool Chattar and installed on Tuesday here at TSC area
The height of the portrait has been set according to the 43rd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
The main picture has been drawn in acrylic colours on the canvas. Many artists have drawn different parts of the portrait in different frames. Then, all parts were jointed.
Jamal Ahmed said, “Artists of Bangladesh created great artistic work with their own talent, labour and creativity.
Tofael Ahemd said, “When I was sitting here and looked at portrait of Bangabandhu drawn by Bangladesh Chorushilpi Sangsad, I seemed, I was sitting before him like 1971”.

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) observed the National Mourning Day on the university campus in Nishatnagar, Tugrag, Dhaka with due respect and solemnity, marking the 43 martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Central Events Committee of the university organized the programme.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed present at the discussion and Doha Mahfil on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.
The chief guest Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed highlighted the descriptions of various events seen from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman whole Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan spoke at the programme. After the discussion, the Dua Mahfil was held for the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the martyrs of his family. BUFT Treasurer Dr. Raihan, Registrar Md. Shahjahan, Director of the Student Welfare A N M Rafiqul Alam, Controller of Exam, Deans, Heads of the departments, Head PR, Faculty Members, Officials and Students were present in the program.
