The schedule of the 11th parliamentary election will be announced by the end of October said Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
The voter list would also be updated before the schedule is declared, he told reporters at the Commission’s office in Agargaon, Dhaka on Tuesday.
The Commission has decided to complete all preparations in this regard, he said adding that “Mid-level officers have been instructed to store all the information of the voters in compact discs (CDs).”
According to the Constitution, the next parliamentary election must be held from October 30 to January 19 next year.
The Secretary said, “The Commission has also decided to enlist third gender people as hermaphrodite voters from next year.”
Mentioning that Voter Day will be celebrated from March 1 next year, the secretary said observing the day will create awareness about voting rights, election and national identity among people.
Regarding the upcoming city corporation elections, the secretary said: “Electronic voting machines will be used at 10 polling centres in Barisal, and two centres in Sylhet and Rajshahi each.”
The elections to these three city corporations are slated for July 30.
